Searching

Basic Search

• Enter your search terms or keywords into the search box.
• You may limit your search by a specified date range, full-text availability, and/or to articles which originated in scholarly journals.
• Click on Search.

Advanced Search

• Click on the Advanced Search tab in the menu at the top of the screen.
• Enter a search term in the box.
• From the drop-down menu to the right, select the field in which you want to search for your term. Using the default selection (citation and abstract) will often return the best results, but you can also select citation, abstract, article text, author, publication title, and subject.
• Connect additional terms using the extra search boxes and the AND/OR/NOT options available in the drop-down box to their left.
• You may limit your search by a specified date range, full-text availability, and/or to articles which originated from scholarly journals. More search options are available from the link near the bottom of the screen.
• Click on Search.

Topic Guide

• Click on Topics from the menu at the top of the screen.
• Enter your search term(s) and click Find Term.
• The search displays those terms used by the database to describe your topic. Links to related articles, as well as narrower terms are provided.

Publication Search

• Click on Publications from the menu at the top of the screen.
• Enter a Publication Name in the box provided and click Search or click on the link to Browse All Publications.
• Click on a title to Browse Issues, Search Within a Publication, or to get more Publication Information.

Search Results

Result List

Articles that only have an abstract may be available in full text from another database or from the Library's print subscriptions. Check the Full Text Periodical Directory on the Library's home page for availability.

The result list is preceded by a list of Suggested Topics and/or publications where more information on your topic may be found. You may refine the result list by using the menu buttons at the top of the list to look only at scholarly journals, magazines, or trade publications. You may also choose to display only those records which include full-text.

Mark records for printing, saving, emailing, or citation formatting (see below) by clicking the check box to the left of the record. Click the My Research tab to work with those records you have selected.

• Printing
1. &  formats:
1. In the Document View screen click .
2. When the dialog box appears, click OK.

1. Click  in the Adobe Reader's tool bar.

• Saving
1. &  formats:
1. From the Document View screen: Click on File > Save As from the menu bar.
2. Select the appropriate drive, enter a filename, and click Save.

2. Select the appropriate drive, enter a filename, and click Save.
• Emailing
1. In the Document View screen, click .
2. Select the desired formats and styles of the message.
3. Enter an email address, and any messages desired.
4. Click Send Email.
• Formatting Citations

ProQuest provides the ability to format citations according to the style guidelines of the APA, MLA, and others. This option is available for records that you have marked by clicking the check box to the left of the record.
1. Click My Research tab (near the top).
2. Click Create your bibliography.
3. Under Format, click the radio button next to Citations only.
4. Select the desired Citation Style.
5. Click Print, Email, or Download.
