A comprehensive news source with full text for 194 newspapers including The Christian
Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, 159 regional newspapers, 18 international
newspapers, and 6 newswires.
ACCESS: At the Ely Library Home Page (http://www.lib.wsc.ma.edu/), click on
Quick Links to Databases, choose Newspaper Source. For Off
Campus Access go to the Off-Campus
Database Menu Page (http://www.lib.wsc.ma.edu/offcampdbmenu.html), choose
Newspaper Source and follow directions to logon.
Basic
Search
Enter your search terms in the box labeled "Find".
Click "Search."
Full Text- Limits to articles that are available in full text in
this database.
Newspaper- Limits to a specific newspaper (Confirm that the newspaper
is indexed in this database by searching Publications)
Published Date - Limits to articles published within a specific date
range.
Publication Type- Limits to a specified publication type, such as
newspaper, news wire, or transcript..
Expand your search
Search for related words will include additional relevant terms in your
search (not recommended)
Search within full-text of articles (if no results, try this option)
Automatically "And" search terms restricts results, requiring
all terms to show up in search results.
Advanced
Search
Use Advanced Search to search specific fields, such as title, subject,
geographic area, journal name etc.
To search a specific field (author, title, journal name, etc.), change the
pull down menu from "Default Fields" to the appropriate field
name.
Additional Limits
Document Type- Limit to a specified document type, such as editorial,
article, book review, etc. (advanced search only)
Cover Story- Limits to articles that were featured as a cover
story.
Articles with Images- Limits to articles available as a PDF or
Text with Graphics
Search
Results
Full Text availability: From your results list, click
, , or .
If full-text is not available (no full-text links for the publication),
search the Full
Text Periodical Directory (http://www.lib.wsc.ma.edu/cgi-bin/ft_journals.cgi)
to determine full-text access for the newspaper.
Narrow Results by Subject Click the links for subject headings in
the left-hand toolbar to narrow and focus your results by these topics.
Printing,
Emailing, Saving citations.
Create a list of citations (with html full-text, but not PDF full-text)
by clicking Add for each citation.
click on the link to retrieve your
list.
Select one of the following:
Print button :
This will bring you to the Print Manager.
Click on "Estimate Number of Pages" to see total number of pages
to be printed.
Click Print and hit enter. NOTE: To Print PDF Full Text:
Click on the
Link. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Click on the Adobe Printer icon toward the left of the Article
window.
Email button :
This will bring you to the Email Manager.
Enter your full e-mail address (e.g. yourname@foma.wsc.ma.edu)
and a Subject.
Choose a Field Format or Citation Format (such as
APA or MLA)
Click on Send.
Your e-mail message will arrive from ephost@epnet.com.
Save button :
This will bring you to the Save Manager.
Choose a Field Format or Citation Format (such as
APA or MLA)
Click Bibliographic Manager tab to export to RefWorks bibliographic
software.
Click Save.
Choose File from your browser, then Save as.
Be sure to save as a plain text file (.txt) or an HTML file (.html).
Name your file.
