This guide identifies the most useful sources available in the WSC library for the study of Environmental Science.  Since Environmental science is an interdisciplinary major at WSC, researchers should also consult the Biology and Geography & Regional Planning guides.  Please ask a reference librarian for help locating resources or advice on a particular topic.

A three-volume set containing 520 articles on the global history of human interaction with the environment. Includes coverage of regions, time periods, specific environmental issues and organizations, and species in relation to environmental history.

The Encyclopedia of Human Ecology. Edited by Julia R. Miller et al. Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-CLIO, 2003.    (REF  GF 4 E53 2003)
A two-volume set of 250 articles that examine the topic of human environments and interactions. The artcles blend environmental information from numerous disciplines with information on the study of individuals and groups from biology, nutrition, psychology, and sociology.

This illustrated 20-volume set provides articles in all areas of science and technology.  It is extensively indexed through both a conventional index and a topical index that lists broad topics with different encyclopedia entries relating to that topic.

Designed for the undergraduate, this book surveys the problem of global warming and summarizes the scientific theories.  It also provides detailed information on the effects of global warming.  A variety of academic perspectives are included.

The Environmental Regulatory Dictionary, 4th edition, compiled by James J. King. Hoboken, N.J: Wiley, 2005.  (REF   KF 3775 .A68 K57 2005)
Provides definitions for more than 5,000 terms of the Environmental Protection Agency's  Code of Federal Regulations. Title 40 (40CFR), Protection of environment.  The terms defined are cross-referenced  to the appropriate section of 40CFR.

Provides methods for measuring the biological, chemical, and physical attributes of waters and offers guidance for choosing among available methods for specific elements and compounds. The Methods have been reviewed and approved by a broad consensus of experts in water analysis.

Covers both the applied and general sciences. With coverage dating back to 1986, this database features over 490 titles—with more than 380 available in full text. Articles include all of  the charts, diagrams, graphs, tables, photos, and other graphical elements that are vital to scientific and technical literature.

Provides access to a wide range of biology topics from 286 journal titles, with more than 250 journals available in full text.  Coverage for many journals extends back to the 1990s.

Covers every major agricultural subject, including agricultural engineering, animal breeding, environmental pollution, pesticides, and water resources. General Science Abstracts    Limited to WSC Community

Indexes some 150 titles many of which include environmental issues. Provides abstracts for all items cited.  Links to full text articles in H.W. Wilson Select are now available for some citations.  Citations date back to 1984.
