The Federal Government’s new official classification for industries and economic data within the North American Free Trade Agreement.  Replaces the Standard Industrial Classification (see below).

System used to classify industries in the United States. Though superceded by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), the SIC is still used in many directories and economic data sources.
