Access: Double click on Netscape at any of the networked
workstations on campus.

At the WSC Library Home Page, click on FullText Periodical Indexes&
Databases.

Click on Business Source Premier.
-
Click on EBSCOhost 3.0
-
Click on Business Source Premier or on ENTER.

Search Options [For
the initial search screen see the example below]

Basic Search:
-
Enter your search terms, or keywords, in the dialog box labeled
"Find". Click on Search under the search box.

You may also Limit your search to Full Text, or Expand*
your search (not recommended at this point).
At the top of the Ebscohost screen, you should see two toolbars:
-
Click on the Natural Language button at the top of the search screen
to use "words, phrases or even complete sentences" for your search. (Caution:
Keyword searching works better!)

Click on the Subject Search Button at the top of the search
screen to look through a list of subjects.

Click on Journal Search Button at the top of the search screen
to find a journal name in the database.

Click on Wall Street Words to access a database defining terms used
in Business.
*To Expand your search
-
"also search for related words" [This will add related terms to your search,
but they will not be defined for you.]
-
"search within full text articles" [This will search for occurrences of
your term anywhere in the full text of all records, thus expanding the
number of retrieved records. Some may not be relevant to your needs. ]

Advanced Search:
To conduct a search using specific fields: article title / author
/ subject / word(s) in an abstract:
-
Click on Advanced (on the second toolbar of the initial search
screen).

Type in your search term and select the field to be searched: author, article
title, subject, abstract

Select the Boolean terms AND, OR, BUT NOT to connect search terms in various
fields.

Scroll down on the page to limit or expand your search. At the bottom,
find "Special Limiters" to search by journal title, number of pages in
a full text article, etc.

Enter a date under "Special Limiters" to search a journal by month or by
year.
-
Click on Get Results to run your search.

Result List: displays a list of citations
that match your search term(s).
|
Results from Academic Search FullText are first displayed in a list
format including:
Article Title, Author, Source (Newspaper, Journal, or Magazine
name), Date, Volume #, Issue, and page/column numbers

Full Text article availability is indicated by a small book icon
next to the citation .Click on the highlighted title or the icon to access
the complete article.

Mark Items of interest to print or download selected citations
later by clicking in the box in the Mark Column. (Warning:
Full Text articles must be printed one at a time)

Revise your search by clicking on the Refine Search button
at the top left of your screen.
This will return you to the original screen in order to edit your search
by adding terms or selecting a new limit.
From the RESULT LIST:
-
To retrieve a list of citations, mark those you are interested in,
then click on the Print/Email/Save button.
Email: Select Email, enter your full
Email address (e.g. name@foma.wsc.mass.edu), Click on Submit.
Saving: Select Save to Disk, Insert your formatted
floppy diskette, Click on Submit. The file will save to your
diskette as print1.asp
You may PRINT or SAVE the resulting list to a disk using the Netscape
FILE menu (top bar).

To view, print or save a full text article to a disk from the Result
List
To Print:
Click on the underlined article title link or the Book icon.
Click on the Print/Email/Save button.
Select Current Record Full Text and
Display to Print
Click on Submit
Choose file from Netscape, then print.
To Save: Place a DOS preformatted disk in the A drive.
Choose file from Netscape, then save as.
Name your file (no more than 8 characters).

Exit the Database When You are Through
|
Click on EXIT to the right of the EBSCOhost
bar at the top of your screen when you are done with your search.
