Earthquakes

Geologic Hazards Team

The U.S. Geological Survey's Geologic Hazards Team site presents information on earthquakes, geomagnetism, landslides, and interactive maps. Team scientists study basic processes and mechanisms, monitor geologic hazard events, analyze their effects, and develop strategies to mitigate the impacts on vulnerable regions. The Team consists of eight research groups (Seismic Hazard Mapping, Seismograph Networks, Global Seismology, Engineering Seismology, Neotectonics, Paleoseismology, Landslide Hazards, and Geomagnetism), and three information centers (National Earthquake Information Center,  National Geomagnetic Information Center, and National Landslide Information Center.

A project of the Smithsonian Institution, users can search for information on the latest volcanic eruptions by the name of the volcano or by the region. Entries for each volcano include classification, physical attributes, maps, and links or citations to sources of data on the volcano.

Worldwide Volcanic Reference Map

The sections for each volcanic region contain reports on the latest eruptions, the elevation, latitude, and longitude of the volcanoes, and eyewitness reports of eruptions.
