Students will be able to do the following:
1. Define the Task: Recognize that an information need exists, define the problem or task using appropriate methods of the discipline, and identify the types and amount of information needed.
2. Develop a Strategy for Seeking Information: Identify key concepts using a controlled vocabulary, assess the value of various types of resources, and develop a plan for searching available materials in print, electronic, and other formats.
3. Implement the Search Strategy: Locate various information resources and access specific information within these resources efficiently and effectively using investigative protocols appropriate to the discipline (e.g. literature review, lab experiment, fieldwork, simulation, interview, survey, etc.).
4. Use the Information Effectively: Evaluate the information’s relevance and extract the relevant information noting verbatim and paraphrased material for appropriate attribution.
5. Synthesize Information: Organize and communicate the results of the information problem-solving effort using an appropriate medium, documentation style, and citation format.
6. Evaluate the Final Product: Evaluate the final product’s effectiveness in meeting the original task and revise the search strategy as needed.
